Warning - this is detailed, slow and nerdy. But at least Mick’s pedalboard is in it for respite

Welcome to the show! To our great surprise, people actually ask for this. So as we pause for the summer, I decided to show you everything audio, video and editing behind the scenes at That Pedal Show. Mick here, hello.
We begin with a quick studio tour, before getting into the nitty gritty of filming and recording, video grading, audio processing and of course the edit!
If you can’t be bothered with all that, there’s a bit of pedalboard and guitar playing stuff at 1:28:48
Please enjoy the show!

REALLY IMPORTANT. If you want to hear the audio as unsullied as possible, head to the ‘Settings’ cog icon in your YouTube window. Turn ‘Stable Volume’ OFF, if you have the option.

FAQ - stuff I forgot to mention in the show
Q: Does Mick do all the production and editing now?
A: Yes. We’ve had help in the past, but these days it’s all in house, mostly for cost reasons.

Q: How much stuff do you cut from a normal show?
A: Almost nothing. If we roll for an hour, usually about 55 mins will make it to the edit. We cut things like tuning gaffs, but it pretty much all stays in. Bloopers stay in unless they’re libellous or cancellous.

Q: Why didn’t you explain close amp mic position?!
A: Sorry - the ribbons are directly central in front of the speaker cone, around 4-6 inches back from the grille. The dynamics and capacitor mics are just off central, same distance. Position, listen, repeat!

Q: How does the TPS intro sting happen?
A: It’s a separate piece of pre-made video that simply gets dragged into the edit at the beginning.

Q: What about the content - how is it conceived?
A: We'll have an idea, write a list of questions to ask… and GO! Nothing is scripted, no rehearsals. Sometimes there might be some research and learning beforehand. Erm, sometimes. But usually it's just whatever comes out on the day.
